There is so much excitement in the air over the recently held Miss USA 2016, a black girl won (Yaaay! #Blackgirlpower) but it wasn’t just any black girl.
Deshauna Barber, a Captain in the Army and commander of the 988th Quartermaster Detachment at Fort Meade in Maryland represented District of Columbia in the beauty pageant and made it to the final with beauty and grace.
But she stole the heart of American women (and viewers all over the world) in the Q&A segment of the contest. When asked about her thoughts on the Pentagon’s decision to open up all combat jobs to women. Here’s what she had to say;
As a woman in the United States Army, I think it was an amazing job by our government to allow women to integrate into every branch of the military. We are just as tough as men. As a commander of my unit, I am powerful, I am dedicated and it is important that we recognize that gender is not limit to us in the United States Army

After that, Twitterverse responded by crowning her winner even before the end of the contest. And she did win!!!!
Deshauna is a reminder of just how much the women folk have to offer to the world, and how women all over the world need to own their game. Congratulations to her, beauty queen and military unit commander, even you’ve got to admit that’s pretty badass.
