Christmas is already knocking at the door and Christmas party invitations are coming from every side. The first decision you will have to make is which party to attend, whether the one organized by a family member, boss, friend or colleague. After that, you’ll get the necessary instructions about the dress code, and you’ll be faced with yet another important decision: what to wear? If you are done wrapping presents, but you still can’t wrap your head around all the dresses on sale, here is a short guide that will help you make the right choice.
Black Is the New Black
There is no way around it – black is the most evergreen color there is, so it will never be out of vogue. And if you choose the all-time classic – a little black dress, your chances of being overdressed, underdressed or poorly dressed equal zero. The most important thing to have in mind when you are choosing an LBD for you is your body type. If you have an hourglass figure, wear a dress that emphasizes your waist; for an apple figure, wear a shift dress; a banana shaped body would look perfect in a side-cutout dress; and an off-the-shoulder fit-and-flair dress is ideal for a pear shape. Accessorize your outfit with a stylish punch (e.g. colorful shoes, a choker necklace, or large earrings).
Little Red Dress
Or choose a Christmassy twist on the traditional LBD and wear a little red dress – because nothing says Christmas as bright red color. As for the body shape, the rules are the same as for the LBD, but here you have a wide range of shades to choose from: from fire engine red to burgundy. Also, with a red dress, you have to be careful with accessories; you don’t want a striking necklace and your lovely dress fighting for attention.
Sprinkled with Fairy Dust
Glittery, sequined and fabulous ladies clothing is almost as traditional Christmas outfit as the little black dress. This is a dress/blouse that will put you in the spotlight at a Christmas party, so be prepared to have all eyes on you. Attention-grabbing sparkly outfits are more than just a fashion tradition; they are one of the season’s greatest trends, presented on catwalks around the world as must-haves.
Keep Your Pants On
Who says you have to wear a dress, or a skirt for that matter, on a Christmas party? A true lady can pull off a pair of stylish pants even on a red carpet. Tailored black trousers are the foundation of this outfit, and you can experiment with various tops. An elegant peplum top will up the chic to the max, a shimmery blouse will keep you in the festive mood, and a simple close-fitting top will look fab if you add a statement necklace.
Pencil Is Mightier than Sword
Separates can look amazing on a fancy party, and not only pants. Among dozens of skirt styles, from a-line to maxis, none can compare with the exquisite “a la mode” look of a pencil skirt. If your party motto is “dressed to kill”, then this is the piece for you. You can make it even more effective by opting for a leather pencil skirt. Combine it with similar tops as you would with black trousers.
Now, all that is left for you to do is to make an appointment with your hairdresser and apply some killer makeup (yep, we’re talking about this season favorite – deep shades lipstick) and own the party.
